Brief summary: Don’t let the appearance of Usher fool you (he’s actually AWESOME in this). This is an intense film about how students at an inner-city high school lose their temper and their patience on one of the coldest winter days, because one of the high school security guards takes his power trip a bit too far. The students basically stage a lock-in at the school after kicking everyone else (except the security guard) out, then they demand a lot of very reasonable things (new books, warm classrooms, respectful teachers like one of their favorites, etc).
This movie is intense and definitely should not be lumped into the “urban, violent high school” category. There’s so much more heart and intelligence to this film. I’ve seen it about ten times and I should see it a lot more. It’s really, really fuckin’ good. Make it one of the next movies you see.
