Brief summary: Sam (Matthew Broderick) is a romantic astronomer in a picture-perfect midwest relationship, with his since-grade-school sweetheart Linda (Kelly Preston). When Linda accepts a teaching position in NYC, Sam’s safe, romantic world quickly begins the crumble around him. He then follows Linda to NYC, begins squatting in an abandoned building, and while he discovers even more bad news, he begins to spy on Linda in every possible way imaginable. Soon, Maggie (Meg Ryan) comes along, and Sam and Maggie don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things. Maggie has one mission– to make her ex-fiancee’s life miserable. This same ex-fiancee (Anton) is the guy who Linda left Sam for, and who Linda currently lives with. Will Maggie help Sam get Linda back? Will Sam and Maggie ruin Linda and Anton’s lives? Will Anton leave Linda for Maggie? You’ll have to see the film to find out. I’ve seen this movie like 80 times, and it never gets old. It’s a lot of fun, it’s creepy at times, and it wears its heart on its sleeve, in the best possible way. Ahh, the 90s.
